A good trick is to leave your phone off-hook for a while, only putting it on hook when you need dial tone to make a call. This effectivel blocks the line and prevents an outbound call being made - they then might try someone l elses' line instead!
I have had this number appear on my Skytalk bill - exactly the same as yours, and for the 32 seconds but so far it is only showing the once. Again it is showing as being just after midnight - when nobody in our household is up and about. I would like to know what is going on with this too. I have sent a letter instead this time requesting that it is investigated properly.
It may only be 14p a time but it can add up - and we haven't made the call so why should we pay it? I wonder how many others this has happened to also - some company earning a lot of 14 p's maybe somewhere!
David - 5 Oct My computer is dialling this number in the early hours of the morning if left running. Interesting that anyone still has a computer connected to dial-up. Even so, users remail responsible for their bills whether 'anyone in the household' dialled them or not. This includes, modems, computers, fax machines, burglar alarms, Sky boxes etc. Just because human in the household didn;t make the call, still does not prevent the call being charged and paid for. If a Skybox makes a chargeable outbound call, then the issue is with whatever or whoever used the service that instructed the box to make the call.
If you cannot trust it, in it should be unplugged. Afraid I disagree with this. Our computers in our home are connected to the internet on a different broadband line to our domestic phone so it can't be them as this phone number is showing on our domestic bill. We purchased a sky box but we have the sky box for watching sky Tv - not so that it can make chargeable calls without our knowledge or our approval.
If the skybox is doing this then it shouldn't be - it suggests to me that there is a fault either with the sky box or with billing. Either way it does need investigating. Especially those relating to the calls your box will make? Interactive services cost, and the customer remains wholly responsible for the actions of any devices on their line, in much the same way as you would if a guest went mad and users your phone line without permission. Investigating this will simply prove most of what you know already, the date and time and the number dialled.
The timing of the call, and the short nature of the data transmission confim the line was used, and you remain liable for it. You may not like that, but your argument is not with BT, they simply connected the call that you or your household required of it. Your Sky terms certainly cover them, so as BT are blameless, it does seem you wish to blame anyone other than the person responsible for giving these devices unrestricted access to your line.
If you are talking to me then actually you are right in that my argument is not with BT - its actually with Skytalk. I responded to this thread after doing a search on the telephone number Invomo ltd in the hope that I might find out more info as to why this number was appearing on my Skytalk bill presumably by communicating with others with the same experience and no , by having a skybox I am not giving my permission for any charges to appear on my bill - I do have the right to query any call charges as mistakes can and do occur with billing - also regarding your comment on direct debits - you may not have heard of the direct debit guarantee!
All I am wanting to do is to find more info and get to the bottom of this really - which I intend to do. This sounds like your sky box is connecting to Sky's network probably to check you have a valid Sky card. The direct debit guarentee has been eroded so far as to not be worth the paper it is printed on, and even if it wasn't, you have no justification to recall the funds as you have agreed to them being taken! Well at least that is an answer of sorts.
I can now check that with sky to find out if it is actually correct. Having said that when I asked before the sky help people didn't come up with that as an option or answer. Actually no - if I have a query on my bill I think you will find that I do have recourse if the wrong payment has been taken! I have been in business long enough to know that. It did. There isn't a 'billing error' it is a cost related to an automated call with piece of equipment you own. Just how to you expect to get out of that? And since you entrust Sky with your telecoms and your viewing, do you not think they would be the first people to tell you about these so-called 'phantom' calls you appear not to want to pay for.
Final;y, yes -I have heard of the Direct Debit Guarantee. This is not a 'guarantee' but an extremely limited single-part re-credit scheme that neither recompenses fully for loss actual or cinsequential on provides consumer with the power they really need to protect themselves. Still, do remember this convesation when Sky enpty your bank account. I'm delighted you won''t bother replying, as if you cannot see why you are in the wrong regarding calls made from your phone line, there's really nothing anyone will be able to say to make you realise your error.
